Although a late directory, this one can be very useful to family historians tracing families in earlier times too. It is surprising how many families will have lived in the same houses for decades. The directory is in three parts: 1. A county directory with general information and history of Somerset, followed by descriptions and facilities of every town and village, its churches, chapels, schools, etc., and lists of private residents and commercial businesses. For the major towns there is a house by house, street by street listing of households. 2. A private residents directory (in alphabetical order). 3. A county-wide classified trades and professional directory. (Note: by this period, places such as Bedminster are included in the Bristol Directories).
