While the Century Company was compiling it's Dictionary in the late 1800's it decided to draw all the proper name references it found into a separate appendix to be included in the last of the dictionary's eight volumes. When they completed the dictionary they found that the appendix of names was so large it justified a complete volume of it's own. Consequently the first edition of the Cyclopedia of Names, for the single year of 1894, was published as a stand alone book. This is the edition of the book which has been reproduced here. Samuel Orcutt and Ambrose Beardsley, THE HISTORY OF THE OLD TOWN OF DERBY, CONNECTICUT, 1642-1880, (1880) 2007
$24.95  http://www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com/find_acdb.mvc?refid=NEWS&p=US0255
Orcutt and Beardsley compiled a comprehensive history of the town of Derby from before its founding to the year 1880, including a lengthy section on the Indians of the region. They added to the main account a section of biographies and genealogies, as well as material on Derby's daughter towns. After an extensive introductory section on the "Indian History" of the territory that became Derby, the authors cover the history of Derby itself in chapters that are sometimes chronological and sometimes topical, with strong emphasis on the many commercial enterprises initiated in the town. All the subjects discussed are illustrated by verbatim extracts from the town, church or other official records. (more...)

Benjamin W. Dwight, THE HISTORY OF THE DESCENDANTS OF JOHN DWIGHT OF DEDHAM, MASS., 2 VOLUMES, (1874) 2007
$19.95  http://www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com/find_acdb.mvc?refid=NEWS&p=US0260
Dwight prepared a massive, comprehensive compilation of the descendants in all lines of John Dwight of Dedham, Massachusetts, and of his brother Timothy Dwight of the nearby town of Medfield. The two volumes include information on more than eight thousand direct descendants of these two immigrants.  Most of this work covers the descendants of John Dwight, since the family of Timothy Dwight daughtered out within a few generations. The author went far beyond the usual scope of genealogies published in the late nineteenth century, by tracing lines of descent through daughters as well as sons, and also by including extensive information on the families of men and women who married into the Dwight family. (more...)

William I. Budington, THE HISTORY OF THE FIRST CHURCH, CHARLESTOWN, IN NINE LECTURES, WITH NOTES, (1845) 2007
$14.95  http://www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com/find_acdb.mvc?refid=NEWS&p=US0286
Budington has surveyed the history of the First Congregational Church at Charlestown, Massachusetts, in the colonial period, augmented by nearly sixty "notes" on various matters of church history, including biographical and genealogical sketches, and concluding with extracts from the church records. The main section of this volume consists of nine lectures, presenting a chronological narrative of the history of the church, with heavy emphasis on the seventeenth century. These lectures are supported by two types of footnotes. About half of these notes are citations to seventeenth and eighteenth century sources on which the lectures are based.  (more...)

Lois Kimball Mathews, THE EXPANSION OF NEW ENGLAND: THE SPREAD OF NEW ENGLAND SETTLEMENT AND INSTITUTIONS TO THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, 1620-1865, (1909) 2007
$12.95  http://www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com/find_acdb.mvc?refid=NEWS&p=US0320
The author narrates the chronology of the settlement of New England in the colonial period and then the migration of New Englanders and their culture to the west and south in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The story is illustrated with many carefully drawn and informative maps.  Mathews begins with the small number of settlements along the coast of New England in the 1620s, and then describes the rapid establishment of new towns resulting from the Great Migration of the 1630s. She goes on to show the further expansion of settlement as the population grew by natural means. She pays special attention to the reversals in the numbers of settlements consequent to the various conflicts with the Indians. (more...)

This third volume of the United Methodist Historical Society Closed Church Records Series contains five church registers from the East Baltimore Station Methodist Episcopal Church  (formerly Fells Point), 1907-1958.  These records are presented in their original sequence using high-resolution greyscale images.  They include handwritten records and therefore do not include any facility for an automated search.  Pre-printed section headings and every page containing historical records are included.  Unused ledger pages are typically not included and account for any appearance of missing page numbers.  (more...)

Based on his own research and on the publications of many other researchers, Charles Edward Banks had, by the time of his death in 1931, collected evidence or clues for the English origin of more than half of the English families which had come to New England during the years of the Great Migration.  The entries for the 2885 emigrants are arranged by county, and within each county alphabetically by parish. Three books on one CD.  The "Notes & Queries" series of books (there are some for other counties too) are full of interesting local history articles and genealogy interest. You can think of them as being similar to today's family history society or local history society journals. In volume II for example, there is an article on the Inhabitants of "Harrowe super Montem" (Harrow on the Hill) in 1523. A five page list of all the people too, and the taxes that they paid. Another article looks at "The Signs of the Old Houses in the Strand in the 17th & 18th Centuries". - 1676 William Cook, Bookseller. 1687 Mrs Hall, The Golden Anchor. John Woodford, sword cutlers, and of course all of the taverns too. Lots of good research material!

CROCKFORD'S CLERICAL DIRECTORY 1898
$29.49  http://www.ArchiveCDBooksUSA.com/find_acdb.mvc?refid=NEWS&p=GB1399
Crockford's directories are a superb source of information for those with ancestors in the clergy. The contents are similar to the earlier Clergy Lists but are much more detailed, giving vital personal information about each individual, such as where they studied, when they matriculated and all of their previous posts.

COUNTY GENEALOGIES - PEDIGREES OF THE FAMILIES IN THE COUNTY OF HAMPSHIRE

=== New releases from Australia ======================

The following new data CDs from our sister company, Archive CD Books Australia, are now available:

NEW SOUTH WALES GOVERNMENT GAZETTE
Government Gazettes contain a vast amount of historical and genealogical information. However they are largely an untapped resource. The few complete runs that are available are usually only found in major libraries. And even for researchers who do have access to these the sheer size and extent of the Gazettes is daunting. Now that is all changing - with the publication of the gazettes on affordable and searchable form on CD-ROM. Tens of thousands of ordinary people and localities, small and large, are mentioned EVERY YEAR in Government Gazettes. But they offer researchers much more than simply names and places. They will help you reconstruct events and circumstances in the life of individuals and communities.
